Administrative/Clerical
Librarian and book scanning specialist. The title is ours; the job is a real one.
- Location Hoboken, NJ, on-site
- Type Full-time preferred; part-time (approx. half-time) also considered
- Level Open. Suited to a first role, or to an experienced librarian looking for a steady, focused position
YOMU is building a reading companion for people who love books.
Our flagship product,
Magic Bookmark
, is a spoiler-free companion that sits alongside whatever you are reading. Lost track of who a character is 300 pages in? Coming back to book four of a series after a year away? Magic Bookmark gives you recaps, character guides, and relationship maps up to exactly where you are, and not a word further. Our tagline says it best: spoil yourself, not the ending.
The principle we build on is that Magic Bookmark works alongside the book, never as a replacement for it. It works with the physical copy on your nightstand, the library paperback, the ebook, the audiobook. We are here to make reading less daunting and more rewarding, so people finish more books and start more series.
YOMU was founded by the team behind Outbrain (now Teads), which grew past $1B in annual revenue and went public on Nasdaq. We are a small, fast-moving group with the resources to build something real and the freedom to build it properly.
About the roleEvery book that Magic Bookmark supports starts as a physical copy on a shelf in our Hoboken office. Someone buys it, catalogs it, and scans it page by page. That someone is who we are hiring.
The role has two halves.
Curator of the libraryYou will help decide what we buy next and keep the collection in order. Our library grows every week, and the decisions behind it matter: which series to complete, which new releases to prioritize, what readers are actually picking up right now. You will work with us on the acquisition list, place the orders, receive the books, and keep the shelves and the catalog in a state where anyone can find anything.
Scanningthe collection
The larger part of the day-to-day. We use a CZUR ET16 overhead book scanner, the kind used in libraries and archives, and each book takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes to scan, page by page. You will be the one doing it, and doing it consistently well: clean captures, no skipped or doubled pages, correct file naming, properly logged.
We will not pretend the scanning is thrilling. It is steady, quiet, hands-on work with books, and it needs someone who takes real satisfaction in doing it precisely. If that sounds like a good way to spend a day, you will like this job. If it sounds like a slog, you will not.
What you'll do- Scan books on the CZUR ET16, page by page, to a consistent quality standard
- Check every scan before it is filed: completeness, legibility, page order
- Name, file, and log each book accurately so it is traceable later
- Maintain our book acquisition list and place orders
- Receive, unpack, and shelve new arrivals; keep the physical library organized and findable
- Track what has been scanned, what is in progress, and what is still missing, in our shared log
- Help prioritize what to buy next: completing series, catching new releases, following what readers are reading
- Keep the scanning setup in good working order and flag problems early
- Patience and meticulousness. This is the heart of the job. Hundreds of pages, hundreds of books, and the four-hundredth needs the same care as the first.
- Comfort with routine, focused work
, and the discipline to hold a standard without someone checking over your shoulder. - Organized by instinct. Consistent naming, accurate records, a shelf you can navigate in the dark. Small inconsistencies compound quickly at this volume.
- Basic computer confidence
: files, folders, spreadsheets. No technical background required. - A genuine love of books. Not a formal requirement, but a real advantage. You will be surrounded by them all day, and the people who enjoy this role most are the ones who care what is on the shelf.
- Reliable and on-site in Hoboken
, since the library and the scanner live here.
No scanning experience is required. The equipment is straightforward and we will train you on it. A careful person is up and running in a day or two. What we cannot train is the care itself.
Nice to have- Library, archive, bookstore, or cataloging experience of any kind
- An MLIS or similar background. We would be glad to hear from experienced librarians
- Prior experience with book scanners, CZUR or otherwise
- Familiarity with Google Sheets and shared…
