The opportunity

Private Tax is a growing practice within EY, serving privately held companies and their owners and families, from start‑ups to multi‑billion‑dollar global enterprises. With a diverse portfolio of technically demanding tax planning and compliance projects, you’ll impact clients and be part of a growing global team, serving as a key point of contact and collaborating cross‑border and cross‑functional. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical planning and advising of clients including private entities (C‑Corp, S‑Corp, Partnerships) and high‑profile individuals.
  • Coach and develop a highly trained team while ensuring quality and commercial value.
  • Collaborate with partners and teams to develop account strategies and identify and deliver additional services to clients.
Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Research tax issues to develop effective planning strategies.
  • Lead teams on all types of tax work from entity to individual.
  • Translate complex data into client‑ready insights and deliverables.
  • Build effective long‑term relationships with clients and understand unique needs.
  • Communicate complex tax issues to non‑tax professionals and clients.
  • Maintain reputation in the field by constantly updating and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Supervise high‑performing teams and share best practices.
  • Identify and react to risks and opportunities to improve services and processes.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, supported by significant tax, business or financial planning experience and a CPA certification or membership in The Bar.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience in professional services or professional tax organization.
  • In depth understanding of estate and wealth planning and experience with federal and state personal/trust income tax.
  • Experience with flow‑through entities (S‑Corps, Partnerships, LLCs) and C‑Corps, including consolidated returns.
  • Excellent collaboration, negotiation skills, and confidence to challenge senior colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of automated tax processing systems and relevant laws in your technical area.
  • Experience managing budgets and projects.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and ability to work in a balanced hybrid environment.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Proven record in tax planning for owners and families.
  • Proven record in a professional services environment.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Executive presence and business development skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to adapt work style to internal and client teams.

What We Offer You
  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and paid time off options. Base salary range for this role in the US is $132,100 to $301,600; for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $158,500 to $342,700.
  • Hybrid model with expectation of working in person 40‑60% of the time for client‑serving roles.
  • Flexible vacation policy allowing you to determine how much time off you need, plus EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence.
