ESOL English & Maths Lecturer – Temporary – 16.75 Teaching Hours per Week

Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays | 16.75 teaching hours per week

Herts Resourcing Group is recruiting for an enthusiastic and supportive ESOL English & Maths Lecturer to work at Hertford Regional College’s Broxbourne Campus.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with HRC’s 16–18 full-time ESOL cohort, supporting learners with their English, basic Maths and wider development.

The successful candidate will be working with the upper ESOL group at Entry Level 3 and Level 1. The group is currently small, with approximately 7 students, but is expected to grow to around 15–20 learners by December.

HRC would ideally like one lecturer to cover all 16.75 teaching hours, providing consistency for the students across their timetable.

About the Role

You will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible English, basic Maths and tutorial sessions to ESOL learners aged 16–18.

The English sessions will support students working at Entry Level 3 and Level 1, helping them to develop their language, communication and wider English skills.

The Maths element is basic Maths with a strong vocabulary focus, helping ESOL learners understand the language and terminology associated with mathematical concepts.

You will also deliver tutorial sessions, providing students with additional support around their development and progression.

Teaching Hours

Monday – 6 hours

* 9:30am – 11:00am – English

* 11:15am – 1:15pm – Basic Maths with vocabulary focus

* 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Tutorial

* 3:15pm – 4:45pm – English

Tuesday – 6 hours

* 9:30am – 11:00am – English

* 11:15am – 1:15pm – Basic Maths with vocabulary focus

* 1:30pm – 3:00pm – English

* 3:15pm – 4:45pm – English

Thursday – 4.75 hours

* 9:30am – 11:00am – English

* 11:15am – 1:15pm – Basic Maths with vocabulary focus

* 1:30pm – 3:15pm – English

Total: 16.75 teaching hours per week

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver engaging ESOL English lessons at Entry Level 3 and Level 1.

* Deliver basic Maths sessions with an appropriate vocabulary and language focus.

* Deliver tutorial sessions and provide wider learner support.

* Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of ESOL learners.

* Create a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

* Assess and monitor learner progress.

* Provide constructive feedback and additional support where required.

* Encourage learners to develop their confidence, communication skills and independence.

* Complete relevant assessment and administrative duties.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and approachable lecturer who can engage and motivate young ESOL learners.

You should ideally have:

* Experience teaching ESOL, English or a related subject.

* The ability to teach learners working at Entry Level 3 and Level 1.

* Confidence in delivering basic Maths to ESOL learners.

* The ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt your communication to meet learners’ needs.

* Strong communication and classroom management skills.

* A supportive and learner-focused approach.

* The ability to plan engaging lessons and monitor learner progress.

* A relevant teaching qualification or appropriate teaching experience.

Experience working with 16–18-year-old learners within further education would be particularly beneficial.
