South Holland Public Library is seeking a friendly, service-oriented Public Services Assistant to join our welcoming team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people, learning new technologies, and working collaboratively in a community-focused and engaging library environment.
Flexibility, creativity, strong customer service, and teamwork are essential to success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly, courteous, and informative service to all library users
- Deliver efficient, high-quality customer service at the Reference Desk
- Develop, schedule, and present programs for adult users
- Provide ready reference, readers’ advisory, and general assistance to users
- Teach basic computer and technology skills
- Assist, troubleshoot, and train users in the use of the online catalog, internet, databases, copiers, printers, and other library equipment
- Work collaboratively with library staff to support daily operations
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
- Spanish-speaking ability is a plus
- Ability to work with Windows and MacOS computers and devices
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Apple products, internet tools, and applications
- Ability to interact with users and staff in a friendly and professional manner
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 20 pounds and access all library areas and materials
- Availability to work daytime, evening, and Saturday hours (no Sundays)
- Reliable transportation
