Controls Engineer

Base pay range: $90,000.00/yr - $/yr
Position summary: The Controls Engineer is responsible for supporting its manufacturing operations in Holland, Michigan in the creation, delivery, and implementation of paint and mold manufacturing processes and controls.

- Proactively identify safety hazards and follow necessary steps to make the proper repairs.
- Spend time on the floor to troubleshoot and correct issues to improve processes with automation projects.
- Troubleshoot and support production equipment using several common systems (PLC, Vision, and Robotics), or other control platforms as required.
- Work with many different aspects of controls, from system definition to design and programming.
- Integrate hardware and software solutions for manufacturing.
- Define necessary capital controls equipment for projects.
- PLC programming Languages and HMI systems used (Allen Bradley, and GE).
- Experience designing and creating electrical prints.
- Design, install, maintain and modify PLC systems.
- Understand and be able to install and troubleshoot AC/DC drives and motors.
- Understand and be able to work with relays, contacts, transformers, motor starters, sensors, switches, etc.
- Technical support and software changes of PLC based equipment.
- Assist maintenance supervisors with machinery issues.
- Reduce repeat downtime issues on machines.
- Assist in start-up of new technology.
- Contribute to cost savings ideas and efforts.
- Implement troubleshooting tools and controls to contribute to process improvements.
Required
Education & Experience:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Controls Engineering or Industrial Electronics or alike strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in automation/controls engineering and/or manufacturing engineering with controls experience.
Preferred
Education & Experience:
- 3+ years of manufacturing controls.
- Versatile in multiple platforms or circuitry and programming languages.
- Automation experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Rockwell Automation Experience.
- Experience in electronic sensors and test equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Support daily needs of Production in the event of machine downtime.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
- A team-based and creative approach to problem solving.
- Experience with interpreting a customer’s specification and translating it into design.
- Experience with database applications, such as SQL Database is a plus.
- Experience with collaborative robots is a plus.
- Pneumatics or hydraulic experience is a plus.
- Manage multiple projects/programs at one time.
- Demonstrate ability to lead by mentoring and teaching technical teammates, and apprentices as needed.
- Lead continuous improvement projects with your team.
