Position: OB Surgical Technician (Surgery), Full Time Nights

The OB Surgical Technician maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout the surgical procedure. This position is responsible for maintaining knowledge of cesarean procedures and implements policies of the hospital. Works alongside the Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective care that maximizes patient safety.

This position also supports the operating room with varied responsibilities and duties.

Pay Range: $18.49 - $27.38/hour

Employment Type: Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7:00 am, rotating master schedule working Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday - Monday

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 60 days of hire

STANDARDS OF CARE

• Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies.
• Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique and/or clean surgical/procedural technique.
• Demonstrates appropriate use of emergency equipment.
• Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.

PATIENT CARE

• Prepares cesarean procedures with the necessary equipment, supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions needed.
• Provides sterile instruments and supplies throughout the surgical procedure.
• Performs appropriate surgical counts throughout the surgical procedure.
• Demonstrates proper use of and shares knowledge with other staff regarding equipment, techniques, and procedures.
• Expedites procedure by anticipating the needs of the physician through proper selection of appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Demonstrates correct use of and shares knowledge with staff regarding equipment, techniques, and procedures.
• Trouble-shoots and maintains equipment.

UNIT MAINTENANCE

• Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking, and cleaning of assigned areas.
• Assists with regulatory and unit checks as delegated.

INSTRUMENT PROCESSING

• Processes instruments effectively to include cleaning, inspection, and testing for proper functioning, assembly, and sterilization according to standards.

SET UP OF SURGICAL CASE CARTS

• Assembles case carts to include all surgery items and instruments in a timely manner for surgical cases

Required Education and Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 60 days of hire

Preferred Education:

- Completion of accredited course in surgical technology or previous job experience with OB
