We are seeking a skilled Lead Controls Technician to support the building of custom industrial machinery
. The Lead Controls Tech will be responsible for the panel build, electrical and pneumatic machine integration, and commissioning support while providing technical input during the design phases of a project.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in custom automation or machine-building environments, understands how electrical and pneumatic systems integrate with mechanical and controls designs, and takes pride in building high-quality equipment from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities- Electrical and Pneumatic assembly for custom-built industrial machines and automation systems.
- Assemble and wire control panels and field devices.
- Terminate wiring to motors, sensors, safety devices, VFDs, servos, and power distribution.
- Read and interpret schematics, panel layouts, and I/O drawings.
- Assemble, install, and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including air prep units, valves, manifolds, cylinders, tubing, and fittings.
- Support machine testing, debug, and commissioning in-house and travel as-needed to customer sites for machine installation.
- Work closely with engineering, controls, and mechanical teams during machine builds.
- Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues during build and startup.
- Ensure builds meet NEC, UL, OSHA, and company quality standards.
- Maintain documentation, redlines, and install tagging as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in controls, electrical, or automation roles within a custom automation environment.
- Prior experience in a lead or senior technician role.
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480V/3-phase, control power, safety circuits).
- Hands‑on experience with control panel wiring, machine I/O, and field device integration.
- Ability to read and work independently from electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Ability to work in an industrial shop environment and lift up to 35 lbs.
