Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineer
As a Principal Engineer at Abbess Instruments you are responsible for the coordination, development, and production of key products. You supervise the production manager, work with the manufacturing facility to resolve questions about design plans, and engage with customers during the design process to ensure that customer requirements are met. You also work with suppliers to select and specify design components and you adhere to all company policies and the processes included in the company quality management system.
Responsibilities- Interfacing with the sales department to review customer requests for proper quoting
- Generating drawings (including parts files and assemblies) using Solid Works
- Conducting design reviews and ensuring signoff of all design plans prior to delivery to manufacturing
- Managing technical materials (documentation, drawings, etc) using Solid Works PDM
- Developing accurate Bill of Materials for all jobs, including job-specific procurement requirements
- Overseeing the manufacturing team to ensure compliance to design specifications
- Coordinating engineering change orders with customers and the manufacturing team
- Specifying test plans and overseeing testing and inspection of manufactured designs
- Maintaining and ensuring compliance with the ISO quality management system
- Performing QA of product before shipment to customer
- Documenting quality issues and preparing non-conformance and corrective action reports
- Participating in root-cause investigations
- Cross-training as the quality assurance supervisor for ISO
- Participating in Research and Development activities to support the product pipeline
- Mentoring and developing less senior engineers
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with at least 3 years work experience
- Knowledge and understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes
- Experience using Solid Works and Solid Works PDM, including advanced features such as linear static analysis and pipe/tube routing
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage projects, monitor progress, and meet required engineering schedules
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Good communication skills, including the ability to present designs to the executive leadership team
