Day (United States of America) – Full‑time/day shift.

Job Summary

Must be proficient in all responsibilities and duties of a Pharmacy Technician, provide leadership to Technicians, assist the Technician Supervisor, and supervise Technicians assigned to the IV room when applicable.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Medication Distribution – Patient Specific
  • a. First Dose and PRN – pull labels from medication and/or IV printer, select correct medication, correct strength, and correct form from shelves. Fill, label, and initial medication bag and leave for a pharmacist to check, then deliver or tube to the appropriate units. Clearly identify refrigerated items.
  • b. Cart Fill – fill patient‑specific medications in accordance with department procedure.
  • c. Transportation – cart fill, first dose, and missing doses delivered to the appropriate units, practicing confidentiality procedures (cover patient labels, medication bags, or any other item containing patient information).
  • d. Missing Doses – upon request, properly generate label, fill, have checked by a pharmacist, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
  • e. Product Preparation – properly prepare/compound ointments яҙ creams and oral solutions, etc.
IV Admixture
  • a. Aseptic technique – view and understand the aseptic technique video, demonstrate proper hand washing and correct use of IV room attire (gown, gloves, mask, shoe and hair covers). Understand TJC, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures. Complete an aseptic technique check‑off to show compliance with USP 797t, conducted by a supervisor or approved IV Tech. Must be trained under direct supervision and receive final approval from the pharmacist or supervisors.
  • b. Small volume – (IV PB) these items prepared upon demand or with the IV batch using aseptic technique.
  • c. Specialty solutions – epidural, intrathecal, IVIG, Prolastin, sterile syringes, and chemotherapy prepared as required.
  • d. Syringes – Neonatal syringes (when applicable) made daily in the A.M. with a 24‑hour expiration date. A pharmacist must check all admixtures before preparing syringes.
  • e. Large volume – (LVA) electrolytes, KCL, and maintenance fluids made as needed or with the IV batch.
  • f. TPN – trained/approved to calibrate and operate the totalgligental nutrition machine (when applicable). Identify correct additives to be used; a pharmacist must check prior to injecting additives.
  • g. TPN Equipment – (when applicable) clean, disassemble, and reassemble all telefoids, replace all additives and run all required reports.
  • h. Room cleaning and restocking – IV hood cleaned every shift and/or as needed to maintain a sterile work surface. IV room restocked every shift or as needed, kept clean at all times and cleared of cardboard boxes. Ensure all procedures are met.
(ADC) Automatic Dispensing Cabinet (Pyxis)
  • a. User – accurately add new users to the Pyxis system.
  • b. Product – properly load cubbies with correct medications. After pharmacist check, load cubie into Pyxis. Monitor par levels, adjust as needed.
  • c. Mineral – generate needed reports to fill, track, kett identify/report all discrepancies.
  • d. Minor Maintenance – troubleshoot minor problems; recover failed cubies and/or drawers.
  • e. Restock – accurately fill medication, fluids, and stock‑outs as needed.
  • f. Recall – assist the pharmacist and supply specialist in retrieving recalled medications.
Miscellaneous Activities
  • a. Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy.
