• This position qualifies for our UNC Rex Surgical Technologist Commitment Incentive Program

  • Option 1: $10,000 spread over a two‑year period paid in three equal payments after the teammate's six, twelve, and twenty‑four month work‑through dates.
  • Option 2: $15,000 spread over a three‑year period paid three equal payments after the teammate's twelve, twenty‑four, and thirty‑six month work‑through dates.

Work and On‑Call Schedule

Week 1

  • Two (2) 12‑hour day shifts (scheduled by the department) – Tuesday, Wednesday.
  • Four (4) on‑call shifts Monday‑Thursday, 19:00–07:00.
  • Example schedule:
    • Week 1 7a‑7p:
      Off, Work, Work, Off, Off, Off, Off.
    • Week 1 7p‑7a:
      Call, Call, Call, Call, Off, Off, Off.

Week 2

  • One (1) 12‑hour day shift (scheduled by the department) – Wednesday.
  • Six (6) on‑call shifts Tuesday‑Sunday;
    Tuesday‑Friday 19:00–07:00, Saturday 07:00–Monday 07:00.
  • Example schedule:
    • Week 2 7a‑7p:
      Off, Off, Work, Off, Off, Call, Call.
    • Week 2 7p‑7a:
      Off, Call, Call, Call, Call, Call, Call.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to report to work within 45 minutes when called in.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Paid for all hours worked, including a minimum of 2 hours pay when called in.
  • Eligible for shift differentials and overtime per policy.
  • Guaranteed 36 hours pay per week, no call-back pay, no on‑call pay for non‑working on‑call hours.
  • Fully benefited position.
Summary

The Surgical Technologist II works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in sterile and aseptic technique and combine knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive procedures.

Performs surgical scrub duties across multiple services and serves as a resource in at least one service line.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
  • Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.
  • Follow aseptic technique; proactively identify contamination and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform surgical counts and follow policies for incorrect counts.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field; label drugs and solutions; monitor quantities used.
  • Assist in identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
  • Actively participate in planning and set‑up of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes.
  • Assist the surgeon, demonstrating understanding of patient anatomy.
  • Demonstrate appropriate case preparation; assist in picking cases and planning instrument needs.
  • Recognize and modify scrubbing procedures; respond to emergencies and follow hospital plans.
