Overview
Supervisor, Maintenance – responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance operations for Drug Product (DP) or Drug Substance Manufacturing (DSM) processes, ensuring equipment, vendors, and daily operational activities are managed while complying with safety, regulatory, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards. Provides training, technical support, and leadership to the process maintenance team.
What You’ll Do- Supervise a team of maintenance technicians within the DP/DSM area, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Manage and oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of equipment such as viral skids, bioreactors, pressure vessels, pumps, centrifuges, clean‑in‑place skids, chrome columns, filling lines, and automation inspection lines.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures and emergencies to ensure continuous operations.
- Perform routine inspections and analyses to identify improvement opportunities and implement energy‑saving measures.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, incidents, and update SOPs as needed.
- Participate in cross‑departmental meetings to provide technical expertise and support process‑improvement initiatives.
- Handle emergency work orders outside regular working hours and collaborate on safety procedures and risk assessments.
- Enforce company policies related to attendance, shift work, and inclement weather.
- Complete required administrative tasks such as time‑card approvals, time‑off requests, expense reports, and participate in recruitment and employee retention strategies.
- Address performance gaps and partner with HR for resolution.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Effective written and oral communication.
- Ability to work and develop a team.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or similar data‑tracking software.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Capability to support a 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on‑call, and weekend work.
- High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of maintenance experience in DP/DSM operations, or
- Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or industrial technology with 6+ years of maintenance experience in DP/DSM operations.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, or managing others.
- Prior experience in a GMP environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or industrial technology.
- 1+ years of people‑management experience and leading cross‑functional teams.
- Experience in large pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical operations or projects.
- Experience with manufacturing or biological products, DP/DSM equipment, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Experience developing and implementing preventative maintenance systems.
Ability to lift and move objects up to 33 lbs; ascend/descend ladders, scaffolding, and ramps; stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods; perform repetitive motions; operate machinery, power tools, and handheld equipment; work in environments with respiratory and hearing protection; operate motor vehicles and power‑industrial trucks; tolerate temperature ranges from 0–115°F; work in outdoor elements and confined spaces; and handle emergencies with limited time and safety protocols.
