Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Core & Blood Bank

Location:

Holmdel, NJ. Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM with rotational weekends. Hospital-based position at Bayshore.

Pay range: $30.01–$49.50 per hour. Shift differential: 10% for some or all hours on second shift, 15% for some or all hours on third shift. Salary offers based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications. Eligible for annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Perform moderate/high complexity test procedures with independent judgement.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas and troubleshoot instruments/procedures.
  • Support quality control, troubleshoot complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report analytical tests per SOP ensuring quality control.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record‑keeping.
  • Maintain turnaround time for results, including stats or critical results.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have correct dates.
  • Document QC analysis and make quality control decisions.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of any problems with test procedures.
  • Report deviations from standard procedures.
  • Enter test results into Laboratory Information System for physician review.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional, sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment and controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or lab personnel.
  • Participate in inspections as needed.
  • Assume lead responsibilities when supervisor absent (if qualified).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

Work Experience:

One year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory.

Preferred

Work Experience:

Minimum three years clinical experience, most recent in current department.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lifting 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs not without assistance.
  • Ability to stand, work at bench, and walk/stand for long periods.
  • Ability to use pipettes and lab instruments requiring manual dexterity.
Knowledge
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Associates in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, or previously qualified as Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF. US‑educated candidates must provide transcript.
  • Other state requirements may apply.

  • ASCP Certification preferred.
