Compensation: $15.58 - $21.00 per hour

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Greet the patient at the front desk and escort them in for office visits with the physician or nurse practitioner and lab work.
  • Transport patients safely using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, height and weight, and document the information in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure exam rooms and physician offices are stocked with medical supplies, equipment, and the appropriate paperwork.
  • Set up for bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and other surgical and non-surgical procedures ordered for the patient.
Lab Specimen Collection
  • Obtain blood specimens after receiving and reviewing laboratory orders; use finger stick or venipuncture as required.
  • Identify the patient and verify information against RCCA .
  • Review specimens for acceptability and instruct patients on proper collection where applicable (e.g., twenty-four-hour urine collections).
Lab Quality Control
  • Investigate out-of-range results and document corrective actions taken.
  • Maintain quality control processes as required.
Laboratory Testing
  • Perform CBC when appropriate, review results for acceptability and critical changes, and report critical values to the physician.
  • Process bone marrow biopsy specimens for transport to the reference laboratory and handle all specimens prepared for outside lab testing according to manual instructions.
  • Support initiative and interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
Record Keeping
  • Practice OSHA safety standards and universal precautions.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
  • Comply with all State, Federal and Local Regulations.
  • Protect patient privacy and adhere to HIPAA guidelines; contribute to a respectful, non-discriminatory work environment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current Certification from an accredited program for Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant preferred.
Physical Demands

The role requires full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and ability to stand and walk for extended periods. May lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

Oncology/Hematology clinic environment with exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations. Reasonable accommodations available to enable performance of essential functions.
