The Nest Holmfirth CIC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting families with children under the age of 5. Our mission focuses on enhancing parental wellbeing and promoting early childhood development through various classes, sessions, and workshops. Led by a board of experienced Directors, The Nest provides holistic support for parental mental and physical health while fostering learning opportunities for babies and toddlers.

Our organization is rooted in empathy and understanding, shaped by our Directors' lived experiences with parenting challenges. We are committed to helping families begin their parenting journeys with confidence and care.

Two posts available with an immediate start (negotiable)

Location: Remote and some in-person events and meetings at The Nest in Holmfirth.

Overview:

This role is an opportunity to influence the running of The Nest and shape its future. Working with other committed Directors and staff, you will gain valuable experience of leading, sustaining and developing a small community organisation. Directors take legal responsibility for the governance of the organisation, and this is supported by staff.

Time commitment:

We have around four Director meetings per year, plus ad-hoc events in the year which Directors are sometimes expected to attend. Directors are also involved in correspondence and decision-making in between meetings. Some Directors may take on a specific role (e.g. Chair, Safeguarding Lead etc) which is dependent on vacancy and suitability of skills and experience. The expected time commitment of a Director is in the region of 1-4 hours per week which will vary over the year.

Benefits:

This is a voluntary, unremunerated position. You will gain valuable experience of being a company director, and experience of leading a non-profit organisation: a community interest company (CIC) which are all valued on a CV. You will have the opportunity to gain or develop other skills depending on specific roles you may take up on the Board. This is an opportunity to make a difference to families with young children and have an impact on the local community.

Overall

purpose of the role

The Nest Holmfirth CIC is currently led by five Directors. Three of those Directors are currently paid staff or session leaders, and therefore we need additional unpaid Directors with no conflict of interest. The Nest has a part‑time Operations Lead and a part‑time Cleaner. Sessional workers/contractors also support the work of The Nest.
