At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Mechanical Technician at RAF Valley, near Holyhead, Anglesey.

The role

As a Mechanical Technician, you'll play a vital role in supporting military aviation operations by carrying out complex maintenance, repair and diagnostic activities on aircraft and aircraft components. Working within a highly skilled engineering team, you'll help ensure aircraft remain safe, reliable and ready for operational service.

This is an exciting opportunity to build your career within a leading defence, aerospace and engineering organisation, where you'll work on advanced aircraft systems, develop specialist technical expertise and contribute directly to the protection and security of the UK.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Conducting scheduled maintenance, inspections, repairs and modifications on aircraft and aircraft components.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective corrective actions to restore equipment performance.
  • Reviewing aircraft component and system performance to identify issues and recommend improvements.
  • Maintaining compliance with maintenance procedures, tooling controls and quality standards.
  • Supporting the safe and timely delivery of maintenance activities, escalating issues where required.

This role is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, based onsite at RAF Valley. Shift patterns for this role are Monday to Wednesday, 7:00am to 5:00pm and Thursday, 7:00am to 4:30pm.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Technician:

  • Demonstrable engineering knowledge and practical mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Experience applying technical skills to diagnose, repair and maintain engineering equipment or systems.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders and communicate effectively across teams.
  • Experience taking ownership of tasks and working with a high level of personal responsibility.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications and updating reports or maintenance records.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Technician:

  • Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship, ideally in Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent military engineering qualifications.
  • City & Guilds 2675 Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance qualification, or NVQ Level 3 in an aeronautical‑related discipline.
