Job Title: Assistant Accountant

Location: Gateshead, Tyne and Wear

Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time

Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum, depending on experience

We're working with a well‑established North East manufacturer who is looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join their team in Gateshead. This is a fantastic opportunity to support our client's growing finance function by maintaining financial accuracy, supporting month‑end processes, and ensuring the smooth running of daily finance operations.

In this varied and hands‑on role, the Assistant Accountant will support core finance activities including:

• Assisting in weekly and monthly management accounts preparation
• Managing the sales ledger and supporting credit control
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations
• Handling accruals, prepayments and fixed asset processes
• Performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations
• Posting journals and daily bank receipts
• Preparing quarterly VAT returns
• Supporting internal and external audits
• Contributing to ad‑hoc finance projects as needed

We're looking for an Assistant Accountant who brings:

• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• AAT Qualified
• A solid understanding of accounting principles
• Proficiency using Excel and accounting systems
