Job Description & How to Apply Below
Mill / Yard Operative – Huws Gray Cefni

Be Part of Something Bigger at Huws Gray.

Whether you're in the trade or simply love a good home improvement project, chances are you've heard of us. We're the Huws Gray Group – home to a family of trusted brands including Huws Gray, Huws Gray Plant & Tool Hire, Civils & Lintels, The Timber Group, PDM, NDI and Anglia Tool Centre. Across the UK, our branches support local communities with everything they need for building, improving and creating – and we couldn't do it without our people.

We're now looking for a Mill / Yard Operative to join the team at Huws Gray Cefni
. This is a hands‑on role where you'll support both the day‑to‑day running of the timber mill and the yard operation, helping to ensure our customers receive the products and service they need while maintaining a safe, organised and efficient working environment.

What you’ll be doing :

As a Mill / Yard Operative, you'll play a key role in keeping both the mill and yard running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Helping customers find what they need by offering friendly, practical advice and support
  • Handling deliveries, including checking goods in, storing stock safely and maintaining accurate records
  • Loading and unloading customer vehicles, supplier deliveries and Huws Gray transfer wagons safely and efficiently
  • Working closely with branch colleagues, drivers and transport teams to maintain efficient operations
  • Safely unwrapping and wrapping timber packs
  • Operating machinery at infeed and outfeed areas to keep production flowing smoothly
  • Running the baler and ensuring it remains clean, safe and operational
  • Organising, storing and clearly labelling stock
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across both the mill and yard
  • Ensuring the site remains safe, secure and well organised for customers and colleagues
  • Following all health and safety procedures and company policies
  • Supporting with additional tasks and duties as required to help the team achieve its goals

We're happy to explore flexible working options. Feel free to chat with us about it during the interview. While we might not be able to meet every request, we'll always listen with an open mind, and there's no judgment in asking.

What you’ll bring:

We're not expecting you to know everything from day one – that's what we're here for.

We'll provide the training and support you need to succeed. What matters most is that you have a positive attitude, enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to get stuck in.

You’ll also be:

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to read paperwork and maintain accurate records
  • Organised and capable of managing your workload effectively
  • Committed to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment
  • Reliable, hardworking and willing to support colleagues wherever needed

A forklift licence would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential.

What’s in it for you:

We believe great work should be recognised and rewarded. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A strong annual leave allowance, alongside your bank holidays
  • Company bonus scheme, based on performance
  • Contributory pension and life assurance
  • Discounts on high street retailers, supermarkets, restaurants, gyms and cinemas
  • Colleague discount across our group brands
  • Attraction and travel discounts
  • Training and development programmes to support your growth

We offer on-the-job training and opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications, including apprenticeships.

Our commitment to inclusion

At Huws Gray, we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce makes us stronger, smarter and better at serving our customers.

We're proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive workplace, whether you’re based in one of our branches, on the road or in one of our offices.

If you need any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please let us know.
