The Medical Assistant supports provider visits by preparing clients, obtaining vital signs and medical history, and accurately documenting in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). This role assists with prescriptions, coordinates follow‑up care and appointments, and ensures up‑to‑date client information while maintaining a professional, respectful, and confidential environment.
Key Responsibilities- Escort clients into the clinical area and assist them physically when required.
- Document start time in EHR when client is roomed.
- Take vital signs and document them in the client’s electronic health record.
- Prepare client for the provider’s visit as required.
- Obtain history of the current visit and document information in the client’s chart.
- Maintain current information regarding allergies, medications, and pertinent family history in the client’s problem and medication sections.
- Ensure all prescriptions sent by fax from pharmacies are forwarded to the provider and addressed in a timely manner.
- Determine, arrange, and submit for appropriate follow‑up care, including appointments, educational materials, diagnostic testing, and third‑party referrals.
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of non‑provider entries into the electronic medical record (e.g., immunizations, medical supplies).
- Required: High school graduate or GED; successful completion of a medical assistant training program.
- 1–2 years of experience as a medical assistant.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; crisis intervention skills; organizational skills; attention to detail; computer skills; good customer relations skills; knowledge of legal and ethical issues pertaining to the profession.
- Current CPR certification and Medical Assistant Certificate.
- Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish).
