About the Role

The Bobst Diecut Operator sets up and runs our automatic flatbed Bobst die cutters. This role turns printed sheets into cut, creased, stripped and blanked folding cartons and other secondary packaging, with foil stamping and embossing on jobs that call for it. Every job must match the customer’s specifications, our quality standards and the production schedule, and be run safely.

Die cutting sits between the press and the folder-gluer, so a problem missed here becomes waste, rework or a late shipment further down the line. The operator owns the job from make-ready through the last skid: checking the first sheet against the approved sample, catching problems before they multiply, and leaving the machine and tooling ready for the next shift.

Success in this role looks like this:
  • Every job is checked against the job ticket and approved sample before the run starts, and nothing ships that does not meet specification.
  • Make-readies are fast and right the first time, and waste stays within the job allowance.
  • Scheduled quantities are finished on time, and problems are caught before large quantities of bad product are made.
  • Production, waste and quality records are complete and accurate every shift.
  • The machine, dies and work area are clean, organized and safe, and no guard or interlock is ever bypassed.
What You’ll Do Job preparation and make-ready ~25% of time
  • Review the job ticket, specifications, samples and approved artwork before every job.
  • Verify the correct stock, cutting die, counter/creasing matrix, stripping and blanking tools and cutting plate before starting.
  • Select, install and register dies and tooling using hand tools; set cutting pressure, feeder, register, stripping, blanking and delivery settings.
  • Set up and run foil stamping and embossing operations on jobs that require them.
Running production
  • Run the Bobst at the speed the job and stock allow while holding quality.
  • Inspect first-off sheets for accurate cutting, creasing, perforating, stripping and registration, and get the required sign-off before the full run.
  • Monitor the machine throughout the run and make adjustments as needed.
  • Identify and correct problems such as poor stripping, nicks, incomplete cuts, cracking, tearing, scoring issues, register problems or excess waste.
  • Stack, count, label and move finished product to the next operation (folder-gluer, finishing or shipping), and remove defective sheets from the run.
Quality and records
  • Pull and check samples at the required intervals and record the results.
  • Complete production paperwork, counts, waste records and quality records accurately for every job.
  • Put suspect product on hold and report quality issues to your supervisor right away.
Safety and equipment care
  • Follow all machine safety procedures, including lockout/tagout; never bypass guards, interlocks or other safety devices.
  • Wear required PPE, keep safe distances from moving equipment and use proper lifting and material-handling techniques.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and basic preventive maintenance; report machine problems and damaged tooling to your supervisor and Maintenance.
  • Handle, clean and return dies and tooling to storage so they…
