Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to patients hospitalized for behavioral health, psychiatric conditions, substance use, or dual-diagnosis disorders. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the LPN delivers compassionate, trauma-informed care while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

You will play a key role as part of a multi-disciplinary care team, supporting treatment planning, de-escalation, medication administration, observation protocols, and patient education.

Reports To: Nurse Manager / Chief Nursing Officer
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Education & Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN Program (Required)
  • Current LPN/LVN License in the State of Massachusetts (Required)
  • CPR (Required upon hire); CPI/Handle With Care (Preferred or obtained within 30 days)
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
  • Behavioral Health, Detox, Psychiatric, or Med/Surg experience
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices
Essential

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care under RN supervision
  • Conduct patient observations and safety checks
  • Administer medications safely and per protocol
  • Transcribe and carry out physician orders accurately
  • Document patient status, response to interventions, and progress toward goals
  • Assist with psychiatric emergencies and crisis stabilization
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and care expectations
  • Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity, rights, and confidentiality
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary treatment planning
  • Support detox monitoring protocols as applicable
  • Communicate clinical updates to RN, provider, and care team
  • Promote a positive, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment

Other duties may be assigned based on unit needs.
