Support the Next Generation Through Education
Are you an enthusiastic, confident and reliable education professional looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a secondary school?
Supply Desk is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Watford, seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to join their team from 1st September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, thrives in a classroom environment and wants to play an important role in supporting students' education and development.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will work across Key Stages 3 and 4, supervising lessons across a wide range of subjects and ensuring students remain engaged, focused and supported when their usual teacher is unavailable. You don't need to be a subject specialist—the key is your ability to build positive relationships, manage behaviour confidently and create a productive learning environment.
Whether you're an experienced Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, graduate considering a career in teaching, or an education professional looking for your next challenge, this school offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience.
What You'll Be Doing
Supervise classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans, activities and resources, ensuring students understand the work and remain on task.
Provide clear instructions and explanations to students, encouraging them to work independently and complete their assigned tasks.
Maintain a calm, positive and purposeful classroom environment where students can learn effectively.
Manage classroom behaviour confidently and consistently, following the school's behaviour policies and expectations.
Monitor students' progress and engagement throughout lessons, identifying where additional support or encouragement may be required.
Support students with different abilities, learning needs and learning styles, adapting your approach where appropriate.
Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, develop independence and maintain high standards of effort.
Deal appropriately with classroom difficulties and escalate concerns to the relevant member of staff.
Ensure students follow school routines, expectations and safeguarding procedures at all times.
Take accurate registers and report attendance or pastoral concerns as required.
Provide constructive feedback to teaching staff about students' engagement, behaviour and completion of work.
Ensure classrooms are left tidy and that learning resources and equipment are treated appropriately.
Build positive and professional relationships with students, teachers, support staff and school leaders.
Support the wider school community when required, including contributing to assemblies, study sessions, examinations or other school activities.
Promote the school's values and contribute to a culture of respect, ambition, inclusion and achievement.
Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm and high expectations.
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety and child protection procedures to ensure students remain safe and supported.
We're Looking For Someone Who
Has experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work or similar setting.
Is confident managing groups of secondary-aged students.
Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
Can establish positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Is calm, patient and confident when dealing with challenging behaviour.
Can give clear instructions and confidently supervise students without direct teacher supervision.
Is adaptable and comfortable supporting students across a variety of subjects.
Can motivate students and encourage high standards of behaviour, effort and participation.
Is reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a wider school…
