Maintenance Team Leader

Knit Mesh Technologies is looking for an experienced and motivated Maintenance Team Leader to lead our Engineering Maintenance team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of engineers to ensure the safe, efficient and effective maintenance of all factory equipment, production machinery and site infrastructure at Knit Mesh Technologies.

The role is responsible for planning and coordinating preventative and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring machinery uptime, maintaining statutory compliance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Team Leader will provide day-to-day leadership to the maintenance team, promote a strong safety culture, uphold high engineering standards across the site, and drive high engineering standards across the site while driving continuous improvement to maximise operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the maintenance team, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
• Plan, prioritise and coordinate planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
• Support the team with hands-on electrical and mechanical fault finding, repairs and equipment improvements.
• Maximise machine availability by responding effectively to breakdowns and identifying root causes.
• Manage the Maintenance Management System, maintenance records and engineering reports.
  
  Manage maintenance budgets, engineering consumables and spare parts inventory.
• Oversee the maintenance of factory buildings, offices, warehouse, utilities and site infrastructure, ensuring facilities remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
• Coordinate and manage external contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and in accordance with company procedures.
• Ensure statutory inspections, testing and servicing of plant, lifting equipment, pressure systems, fire protection, emergency lighting and other site assets are completed and documented.
• Support capital projects, equipment installations, process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  
  Work closely with Production, HSE and other departments to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Promote a strong health & safety culture, ensuring compliance with all company policies and relevant legislation.
• Develop, monitor, and analyse maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including equipment uptime, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) completion, and breakdown response times.
• Prepare regular engineering performance reports for the Engineering Manager, using KPI data to support maintenance planning, resource allocation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Salary, Working Hours & Benefits

• £45,000 per annum
• 37.75-hour working week

Person Specification - Essential

• Time-served apprenticeship and minimum of HNC qualification in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
• IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to obtain)
• Full UK Driving Licence
• At least 5 years’ experience leading or supervising a maintenance team within a manufacturing environment
• Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding skills
• Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems and maintenance KPIs
• Good communication, organisational and leadership skills
• Competent in Microsoft Office and computerised maintenance systems (CMMS)

Person Specification - Desirable

• Degree in Engineering
• Electrical qualifications (18th Edition)
• PLC fault-finding experience
• NEBOSH General qualification
• Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
