Position Overview

Bret-Mar Landscape is seeking an Experienced Landscape Designer / Project Coordinator to support our high-end residential projects from design development through installation. This role is ideal for a mid-level professional who enjoys both creative design and the technical, organizational side of preparing projects for construction.

This position focuses on design development, take-offs and estimating, construction documentation, and material coordination
. While client interaction may occur for design clarification, this role does not include sales responsibilities or commission-based work.

Key Responsibilities Design Development & Documentation
  • Develop thoughtful residential landscape designs aligned with Bret-Mar’s design standards
  • Translate design concepts into precise layout drawings, planting plans, and material selections
  • Prepare clear, comprehensive construction documents to support high-quality installation
  • Assist with revisions and refinements throughout the design process
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for hardscape, planting, and specialty materials
  • Assist in preparing accurate internal cost estimates for residential projects
  • Coordinate with trusted vendors and suppliers to confirm pricing, availability, and lead times
  • Assemble organized project documentation for seamless transition to operations and field teams
Project Coordination
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and installation teams during pre-construction and build phases
  • Support material ordering, delivery coordination, and installation preparation
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized project files throughout the project lifecycle
Collaboration & Professional Communication
  • Work cross-functionally with design, operations, and field staff to ensure alignment and clarity
  • Communicate professionally with clients when design clarification is required
  • Contribute to a respectful, detail-oriented, and collaborative office culture
Qualifications

Required

  • 4+ years of professional experience in residential landscape design or design-build
  • Strong understanding of high-end residential hardscape construction and planting design
  • Proven experience producing construction-ready landscape drawings
  • Ability to complete accurate material take-offs and support estimating efforts
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Uvision/Realtime Landscape Pro or similar design software
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to attend job site visits as needed
  • Strong knowledge of Midwest plant material and luxury residential landscape standards

Preferred

  • Degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, or a related field
  • Experience coordinating material orders and working with vendors and suppliers

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office-based design and coordination work with occasional site visits
  • Periodic outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to approximately 20 lbs
  • Ability to navigate active residential job sites, including walking and standing for extended periods
