Lead Instructor - Homestead
Reports to: Site Coordinator, GPS
Employment Type: Part-time, Monday-Friday, 2pm-6pm (increased hours during summer sessions)
Work Location: Homestead, FL
Salary Range: $19.00/hr (non‑negotiable)
Qualifications And Competencies- Bilingual (Creole or Spanish); reads and writes well in English
- Preferred A.A. or Degree in Education or High school diploma
- Available to work the required program hours
- Reliable personal transportation and personal cellular phone
- Demonstrated experience working with children in K-8th
- Positive response to criminal background check (fingerprint)
- Basic Computer skills
- Must obtain a Florida Child Care Professional Certificate (DCF 45 hours)
This position is responsible for providing program support to the Site Coordinator and Instructors to ensure that the GPS program includes logistical and communication support for program business and administrative matters, and to provide direct instruction, supervision, care and support of children served in the program. GPS Instructor services include facilitating session outreach and resource development, including linking clients to appropriate support services as directed by the Site Coordinator.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support services.
- Collect data in a timely manner and submit it to the Site Coordinator for data entry.
- Direct instruction of children/youth in one of the specialty areas: reading, social skills, physical education, arts.
- Administer assessment testing of students within the assigned specialty area (pre‑, mid‑, post‑).
- Create a positive, enriching academic environment for the children.
- Assist and engage children with completion of daily school homework and attendance.
- Work independently with the children and promote creativity.
- Ensure the children’s nutritional needs are met through daily snacks (or lunch/snack during a longer program day).
- Follow the daily activity schedule set by the Site Supervisor.
- Model and reinforce hand washing and cleanliness, especially before meals/snacks and after using the bathroom.
- Show respect for parents at all times and invite them to participate in regular program activities and special parent events.
- Maintain a clean, safe area for the children.
- Attend staff trainings outside of program hours to improve professional skills and enhance program activities.
- Assist children in using the educational computer lab.
- Responsible for the set‑up and upkeep of the Kidblog student publishing program.
- Participate in agency meetings, in‑service training and workshops as deemed appropriate.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
