Position: Permit Technician Supervisor - CAP Government (Homestead) - EVG

Overview

We are seeking the immediate hire of a Permit Technician Supervisor for CAP GOVERNMENT for our office in Homestead, Florida. This position is responsible to ensure equal opportunity in employment and to provide information and guidance regarding procedures for all types of building permits. The role is heavily customer service-based and requires a strong and excellent customer service approach with internal and external customers.

The position is in-person in the office and may require sitting or standing for long periods of time.

Responsibilities
  • Provides information and guidance to the general public regarding application procedures for all types of building permits.
  • Reviews permit applications for required information and documentation.
  • Distributes applications for necessary reviews.
  • Monitors progress of permit review.
  • Verifies completion of all required reviews and notifies the applicant of the approved permit.
  • Serves as liaison between reviewing agencies and applicant.
  • Performs specialized processing functions for permits.
  • May be assigned as a special liaison with high-volume customers.
  • Tracks permit through the inspection process to advise customers of status, problems, and final approval.
  • Maintains building permit packets with detailed files of official records pertaining to the process.
  • Addresses public records requests.
  • Answers phones and assists customers at the counter.
  • Handles customer questions and issues regarding permit requirements; refers technical questions to appropriate staff and advises customers of action taken as necessary.
  • May include imaging documents using small and large-format scanners.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.
  • May be assigned to other office locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or assigned.
Requirements
  • Education:

    A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Supplemental training in building inspection, structural engineering, or a related field is preferred. An Associate's Degree in engineering, architecture, building inspection, or a related field, or equivalent ICC certification level is a plus.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 3 years’ experience as a permit technician within a municipal setting is required.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Experience working with permitting software is highly preferred.
  • Experience in administrative and/or customer service settings is highly preferred.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
  • Knowledge of basic land development and construction permit requirements.
  • Knowledge of general permit processing and procedures.
  • Knowledge of County offices and functions.
  • Knowledge of land development and construction terminology.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Able to accurately answer questions and resolve problems or refer to the appropriate office.
  • Able to follow checklists and recognize different types of required exhibits and plans.
  • Hands-on experience with desktop computer applications.
  • Skilled in the use of various office equipment.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Able to interact effectively with others.
  • Must be able to commute to other office locations based upon operational needs.
