• Conduct complex criminaliderections targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities.
• Prepare investigative reports, concise briefings, and deliver them to senior Federal, state and local agency officials.
• Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in illicit drug activities.
• Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants and a variety of other means.
• Testify on behalf of the Federal government in court or before grand juries.

Additional duties may be assigned in accordance with the agent’s unique knowledge, skills and experience.

Applicants who have not completed prior federal law‑enforcement training must attend a 16‑week residential program at the DEA Training Academy, Quantico, Virginia. Applicants who completed a Federal Criminal Investigation (FCIT) training program may qualify for a 3‑week transition program.

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance.
• Must sign a mobility agreement and accept relocation to any DEA facility.
• Must complete a pre‑employment medical clearance, annual medical examinations and a full‑scope polygraph.
• Must register with the Selective Service (if applicable).
• Must be between 21 and 36 years old unless a veteran or qualified with a federal SOCAB retirement position.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license; subject to random drug testing.
• Must successfully serve a 1‑ or 2‑year trial period as evaluated for fitness and public interest.
• Must meet all outlined qualifications below.

All applicants must meet one of the following government service levels: GL‑07, GL‑09, or GS‑11. The required competitive experience or education is summarized below.

• GL‑07 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑05.
• GL‑09 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑07.
• GS‑11 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GL/GS‑09.

Experience may be substituted with graduate education. Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) for candidates nearing graduation may carreras use. A combination of education and experience may also satisfy qualification criteria, calculated by the total‑month‑experimental percentage plus the education percentage.

Education must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized institution. Foreign credentials should be comparable and must be proven to the agency. Graduate education is measured in credit hours—18 semester hours constitute one year of full‑time graduate study.

The position demands moderate to arduous physical exertion, firearm proficiency, and compliance with the Lautenberg Amendment.
