General FunctionHigh‑skilled mechanical work involving the inspection, maintenance, and repair of generation plant engines, generators, compressors, and other related equipment. Work includes responsibility for assisting in the organizing, planning, directing, and coordinating of the personnel and activities associated with the routine maintenance program of the generation units and associate components. Although maintenance activities are to be coordinated with the Power Plant Supervisor, independent judgment and discretion are allowed and encouraged in the performance of duties.
Work is reviewed by observation of results, daily written reports, and conference.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervises lower‑level Power Plant mechanics daily routine and worklist.
- Provides training and instruction in repair, maintenance procedures, and techniques to junior mechanics.
- Acts as the project lead for major equipment repairs and engine overhauls.
- Performs highly skilled maintenance, repairs, and inspections on diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and related equipment. Does related work as required.
- Coordinates scheduling of routine inspections and maintenance of diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors and other related equipment with the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance.
- Ensures the timely performance and completion of routine maintenance tasks to assigned equipment.
- Diagnoses mechanical problems of generation equipment; initiates corrective action according to accepted departmental procedures.
- Makes suggestions for improvements to routine maintenance procedures.
- Skillfully uses precision‑type instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc.
- Safely operates repair tools and equipment; grinders, drill press, forklift, taps and dies, etc.
- Responsible for the maintenance and safety of assigned equipment and tools.
- Completes daily reports on work performed, problems encountered, parts and supplies used according to accepted divisional accounting practices and requirements.
- Subject to be called to work in an emergency.
- Performs other job‑related functions as assigned.
- Full‑time / Regular in‑person position.
- Standard work week, which is forty (40) hours of work per week consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service.
- Will be required to work other than the standard work week on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, if applicable.
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in large diesel engine repair and maintenance. Experience with Dual Fuel Fairbanks Morse engines preferred.
- Successful completion of technical courses on the repair and maintenance of diesel engines and related generation plant equipment.
- Able to read, write, perform basic math, prepare reports, read blueprints, interpret graphs and charts.
- Ability to produce reports, graphs, and spreadsheets using Word, Excel, and similar computer software.
- Familiarity with Maintenance Management Software.
- Ability to use the Naviline/HTE system for procurement of parts and verifying inventories.
- Ability to safely operate related tools and equipment.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instruction.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Must pass a background screening process.
- An equivalent combination of High School Diploma, training, and at least 10 years of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in lieu of the stated education and experience requirements. Substitution will be evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis to determine relevance and comparability.
