Contract Specialist – DLA Careers
Enter this entry‑level training position that will prepare you for a career in contract administration within the Defense Logistics Agency's Troop Support Major Subordinate Command. The role is part of the DLA Pathways to Career Excellence (PaCE) Program and includes formal training and on‑the‑job instruction.
Responsibilities- Attend formal training and submit required training documentation.
- Perform developmental contract specialist duties supporting procurement of a variety of items, materials, and equipment.
- Utilize both manual and automated purchase procedures.
- Apply formal advertising and negotiation techniques to procure awarded items.
- Review requisitions, bids, and proposals to confirm proper specifications and purchaser descriptions.
- Create and review supporting documentation for solicitations and awards for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor vendor performance for compliance with award terms and assist customers in resolving award‑related problems.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.

To qualify, applicants must satisfy either (or both) the basic contracting requirement and relevant experience.
- Basic Contracting Requirement:
A) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or
B) Prior DoD contracting officer position with authority to award contracts above simplified acquisition threshold before September 30 2000. - Specialized experience:
One year of experience directly related to contract specialist duties, meeting GS‑05 equivalent level. - Education substitution:
Graduate‑level study for at least one year or Master’s/Ph.D., or bachelor’s with superior academic achievement.
Applicants must submit transcripts or documentation supporting educational claims. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at time of application.
Defense Acquisition WorkforcePosition requires DoD Acquisition Contracting (C/CON) and Professional (Foundational) certification within required time frames. Selectees must also attain 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every 2 years.
