Overview
The position Physician (Sleep Medicine) is located at Tripler Medical Center, Honolulu, HI.
The position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Medicine Department of Medicine Sleep Laboratory in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Island of Oahu in Hawaii is often nicknamed "The Gathering Place". It is the most populated Hawaiian island. Honolulu is the largest city, state capital, and the main deep‑water marine port in the state. Oahu features include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma, Kane’ohe Bay, Kailua Bay, North Shore, and Ko’Olina. The island has the longest rain shower in history, lasting 200 consecutive days, with average temperatures ranging from 70–85°F (21–29°C) in summer to 68–78°F (20–26°C) in winter.
Responsibilities- Physician is the recognized subject matter expert in all matters related to sleep medicine.
- Integrate newly published scientific research on sleep, interpret published professional guidelines and educate other providers.
- Develop policies and guidelines for the program with regards to sleep evaluation.
- Given the latitude to work within and interpret guidelines as sees fit for the betterment of the program and its patients.
- Responsible for the examination, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of outpatients seen in the clinic.
- Diagnose multiple chronic conditions and a wide range of sleep and breathing disorders and diseases, complicated diagnoses and treatments.
- Manage assigned cases that often have overlapping complex conditions that involve complicated diagnostic and testing procedures.
- Order and evaluate the full range of tests to include polysomnography, actigraphy, sleep diaries, unattended sleep studies, appropriate radiographic, pulmonary function testing and laboratory testing when indicated.
- Supervise, teach and provide consultation to other health care providers (nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, medical students, interns, residents, and fellows).
- Incumbent has direct contact with staff members of OTSG in order to plan and coordinate the provision of sleep medicine in the program as well as to resolve operational issues.
- Provide expert advice not only to providers within the program but to the Commanding General and OTSG on sleep health concerns in senior leaders and the impact of that on a wide range of healthcare concerns.
- Serve as the primary Sleep Medicine Physician;
Board Certified or possess a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sleep Medicine preferred.

Basic Requirement for Physician (Sleep Medicine):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. The degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre‑medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
