SummarySupport Kamehameha Schools Athletics’ Surfing team as a temporary assistant coach for the school year. The role is projected to cover the spring season, with tentative dates from March through May 2026, and offers a stipend of $3,746.00.
Essential Responsibilities- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of surfing, including rules, regulations, skills, tactics, and techniques, and translate this knowledge to athletes.
- Teach individual and team skills, evaluating athletes’ performance and progress, and help them reach full potential while fostering personal and team development.
- Organize and supervise safe, efficient practices and competitions; prepare the team for games/matches/meets.
- Conduct oneself ethically and professionally, acting as a positive role model, motivating, inspiring and displaying encouraging conduct toward athletes.
- Develop a team concept within the KS values-driven framework, promoting sportsmanship, rule respect, and equitable focus between skill development and team play.
- Handle administrative responsibilities: discipline, eligibility verification, record keeping, timesheets, human‑resources compliance, equipment and wardrobe management, planning and budgeting, and inventory.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, other coaches, and the community, ensuring timely results and program promotion.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year coaching experience.
- National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, staff, physicians, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
- Flexible work schedule, including frequent evenings and weekends.
- High school or collegiate athletic participation.
- High school or collegiate coaching experience.
- Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
- May require travel to various locations, including neighboring islands.
- Work conducted in office/school environments and may involve non‑standard workplaces.
- Typical schedule Monday‑Friday during normal business hours, with evenings and weekends frequently required.
