PAY RANGE:

$25.50 - $35.50 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Martial Arts Instructor is responsible for developing and leading safe, engaging, and inclusive martial arts classes for youth, teens, and adults in alignment with the YMCA’s mission and core values. This position creates a positive learning environment that promotes skill development, physical fitness, self-confidence, respect, and discipline.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan and instruct age-appropriate martial arts classes that focus on skill development, technique, and personal growth.
  • Supervise all class participants to ensure safety and adherence to YMCA policies and program standards.
  • Provide positive reinforcement, encouragement, and individualized instruction to participants.
  • Demonstrate proper form and technique while emphasizing safety and injury prevention.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes the YMCA’s four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, program records, and equipment inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and YMCA staff regarding schedules, progress, and program goals.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the instructional area and equipment.
  • Attend staff meetings and required YMCA trainings and certifications.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Minimum age: 18 years old.
    • Black belt or advanced ranking in a recognized martial arts discipline (e.g., Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, etc.).
    • Prior experience teaching martial arts to youth and/or adults preferred.
    • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
