Conditions:
Spring 2026, part-time, for lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, assignments as needed, contingent on availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements.
- Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
- Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
- Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives, prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
- Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required.
- Commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential.
- Must be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet. This is not a remote position. For some teaching fields, openings may only be available for classes offered on military bases or taught via the Internet. To teach on a military base, Department of Defense security clearance will be required.
To teach Early College courses for DOE schools, background checks will be required.
- Unless a related field is listed, the degree must be in the subject area. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences plus three (3) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations; or (b) Associate degree in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences plus five (5) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations; or (c) 15 college credits plus seven (7) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations.

- Teaching experience at the community college level.
- Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
- Work experience related to course to be taught.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
- Demonstrated familiarity or prior experience working with the cultural, social, and economic diversity of Hawaii’s student population.
- Experience in the use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software.
- A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
