The University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UHM), Hamilton Library seeks to hire a dynamic and forward-thinking tenure-track Interlibrary Loan and Resource Sharing Librarian. The successful candidate will manage a comprehensive interlibrary loan resource-sharing program at Hamilton Library, a Tier 1 academic institution and the flagship campus of the University of Hawai'i System.

Under the general direction of the Chair of Access Services, the position coordinates interlibrary and document delivery services for the UHM community to obtain materials owned by other libraries. Additionally, it oversees service operations to fulfill loan and document delivery copy requests from the UHM collections for domestic and international libraries and independent researchers. The librarian works with a team of resource-sharing staff, including a supervisor and support staff.

The position manages consortia partner agreements and maintains key partnerships in the broader resource-sharing community. The position provides oversight of daily operations to ensure efficient services, participates in assessing services, and facilitates improvement projects. The successful candidate seeks to be aware of new developments in systems and methods for delivering timely and efficient access to resources for patrons.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage a comprehensive interlibrary loan resource-sharing program to enhance the ability to borrow shared collections through consortia and related agreements including but not limited to OCLC, Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), IDS Network, Rapid

    ILL, as well as managing sharing UH-Manoa’s Libraries collections, and handling complex borrowing and lending requests.
  • Ensure copyright compliance and fair use are upheld.
  • Collaborate with the library subject specialists and library administration to enhance the ability to borrow international and specialized collections, lend eBooks and other digital materials, fully utilize UHM's many partnerships to provide student and faculty access to scholarly materials, and expand external access to the library’s specialized collections.
  • Participate in assessment projects contributing to library goals such as improving discovery, identifying new partnerships for collection building and access, and enhancing service design.
  • Apply the principles and protocols established in the American Library Association’s (ALA) Interlibrary Loan Code, follow the ALA Code of Ethics, and understand and apply the principles and guidelines established by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA).
  • Maintain resource-sharing relationships with key contacts at member libraries, consortia partners, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with IT systems to support resource sharing functions within the University Library’s management system, Ex Libris ALMA and its discovery layer, Ex Libris Primo

    VE, the library’s resource sharing management systems, including OCLC World Share, Atlas ILLiad, Docline, and consortia partner resource sharing programs.
  • Keep abreast with and contribute to the development and implementation of emerging tools and systems for prospective collaborative collecting, access, and sharing.
  • Librarians hold faculty status and are expected to meet requirements for tenure and promotion through professional development, travel, research, service, and other scholarly and institutional contributions.
