Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Co
    - Principal Investigator, support research (e.g. development, data collection, analysis and reporting) for the Scientific Sense making About Place-based Phenomena (SaP) Project funded by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the project is to design, implement, and investigate a professional learning approach that supports rural elementary teachers and administrators in incorporating local and culturally significant, place-based phenomena into their science teaching.
  • Assist with professional learning activities (e.g. development and implementation)
  • Assist in project communications (e.g., with study participants including teachers and administrators);
  • Travel to Hawai'i Department of Education Schools across Hawai'i for data collection
  • Attend research team meetings;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Full-time classified graduate-level student in good standing (GPA of 3.0 or above) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
  • Proficient with basic computer software and hardware, such as Google Drive/Docs/Sheets/Forms, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with diverse colleagues, students, and community members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations on Oahu and other islands in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai'i Driver's License (class
    3), comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Masters or Doctoral student in Education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
  • Experience working in or with the HIDOE.
  • Experience with designing and implementing professional learning for K-12 teachers.
  • Experience with all phases of academic research (conception through dissemination).
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in report writing and use of APA style.
  • Experience making research presentations in professional settings.
