Summary of Program and Position:

We believe that every child deserves bright and healthy futures. Early education plays a critical role during the important developmental period, especially among disadvantaged children. Investing in early education will have a tremendous impact on life outcomes and provide thriving futures for Hawaii’s young minds.

Federally funded initiatives provide early childhood education and related comprehensive services for low-income parents and children, and children with special needs. Early Head Start (EHS) provides services in centers and in homes to prenatal parents and parents with infants and toddlers. Head Start (HS) serves children ages three through five and their parents to provide a head start for school success.

The primary responsibilities of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Coach are to provide training and technical assistance to support teaching staff in the implementation of early childhood curriculum. This position is under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director.

  • Collaborates and works cooperatively with teaching staff to enhance classroom/ socialization practices by developing shared professional development goals through focused observations and providing active and reflective feedback.
  • Coordinates a systematic approach to identify and meet the needs of assigned teaching staff as part of the coaching relationship.
  • Assist assigned staff with creating their professional development goals and support staff in achieving those goals as part of the coaching program.
  • Conducts weekly and/or bi-weekly classroom/home visits, socialization observations and meetings with teaching staff to discuss implementation strategies and provide feedback.
  • Submits accurate and timely statistics and reports for accountability.
  • Meets regularly with the Assistant Director, Area Managers and Education/Disability Specialists to discuss the progress and future direction of the coaching program.
  • Provides resources to the teaching staff such as books, journals, articles, workshops, and linkages on best practice as it relates to early childhood education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field,required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Early Childhood Education setting,required.

Other:

  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and daily access to an automobile.
  • Has proof of no-fault insurance.
  • Is able to obtain an acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Is able to obtain an acceptable FBI background check.
  • Is able to obtain an acceptable CPS child abuse registry check.
  • Has been tested and is negative for Tuberculosis, no older than 6 months prior to employment.
  • Has passed a physical examination no older than 6 months prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing coaching support to direct line staff, preferred.
