Job Summary
Hawai'i Pacific University invites applications for the position of Adjunct of Communication with a specialization in intellectual property/media law. The successful candidate will teach courses in Intellectual Property and Media Ethics, Media Law, and be able to successfully administer courses online. Adjunct professors are hired on a per-course basis, depending on course enrollment.
Compensation- $1,050 per credit – Masters
- $1,150 per credit – Doctorate
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree plus five (5) years of professional experience in a related area.
- Previous successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in area of intellectual property and media ethics.
- Experience with teaching online/learning management systems.
- JD with specialization in intellectual property/media law and minimum five years professional field related experience.
- Previous successful college teaching in online and in-person settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in area of intellectual property and media ethics.
- Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with diverse cultures and ethnic groups.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may work during HPU's summer and winter break, if necessary.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Able to teach classes scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.
- Able to teach classes at multiple locations on Oahu.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
- Develop syllabi in line with model syllabi, assigned textbooks, and department, college, and university policies (8%).
- Prepare individual classes; maintain records of student progress and assign grades (72%).
- Hold office hours and respond to student questions (1 hour/course) (12%).
- Participate in training sessions (3%).
- Perform other related duties as assigned (5%).
- Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
