This position heads the Field Consultant Unit of the Bridge Design Section, Design Branch, Highways Division, Department of Transportation. Duties and responsibilities include conducting preliminary location, type and cost studies; preparing, supervising and approving design computations, plan specifications and estimates for bridges, separation structures, retaining walls, pedestrian facilities, tunnels, culverts, small buildings and other structures; developing, preparing, reviewing and approving construction and maintenance plans, specifications, proposals, estimate details and computations for both State designed and consultant designed projects;
and performing other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Professional License: In order to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, applicants must possess knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of structural engineering; engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials as it relates to structural engineering design and functions; and the ability to perform and supervise structural engineering design, construction and inspection activities; analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features.
Therefore, applicants MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer
license

Education:
A bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. - Engineering
Experience:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. - Supervisory Experience/Aptitude or Staff Advisory
Experience:
Applicants must possess Supervisory Experience/Aptitude and/or Staff Advisory Experience. - Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
