Overview of RoleThe Project Engineer I will aid project management staff by coordinating design and construction field activities, planning, organizing, and controlling project elements under the direction of the PE-II or PE-III. The role involves managing, supervising, and performing planning, design, construction, and/or maintenance of structures and facilities. The engineer evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, making substantial adaptations and modifications to project plans.
The Project Engineer I should identify opportunities that add value and help achieve the client’s desired outcomes.
- Coordinates and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects, including setting up standard project files.
- Reviews design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Coordinates activities related to scheduling and resolving engineering design and construction problems.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Reviews and controls expenditures within project budget limits.
- Communicates with the Senior Project Engineer on issues requiring evaluation.
- Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates professionalism.
- Completes work accurately and timely, capable of multi‑tasking.
- Demonstrates excellent oral, written, and communication skills with tact, diplomacy, and strong customer service orientation.
- Prioritizes work activities and assumes multiple responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Follows RLB policies and procedures, including confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Contributes to team performance through collaboration and effective communication.
- Understands client desired project outcomes and identifies value‑adding opportunities.
- Adds to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned.
- Often work in an indoor office environment using computers and standard office machines.
- May work on site locations, requiring use of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles; agility is emphasized, and lifting up to 50 lbs may be required.
- Additional tasks may include sitting, standing for long periods, walking, carrying, pushing, stooping, crouching, and pulling.
- Minimum Education (or equivalent experience): 4‑year college degree in architecture, construction management, or engineering science.
- Minimum Experience:
Entry level up to five (5) years of relevant construction experience. - Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), PowerPoint, and Visio; extensive knowledge in a specific engineering field; experience with general contractor procedures and processes is a plus.
