Research and Financial Analysis
- Performs complex financial analysis with minimal supervision and reports findings to management.
- Reviews and reconciles medium to high complexity balance sheet accounts, including cash, revenue, receivable, expense, and liability accrual accounts.
- Analyzes financial data for significant fluctuations and communicates with appropriate units or departments to ascertain the validity of transactions.
- Analyzes, researches, and communicates financial information to management or leadership.
- Prepares and provides account reconciliations, audit work papers, and other documentation for internal and external audit reviews.
- Provides support for Federal and State compliance reporting requirements such as Federal Plan (FEPDO and OPM) reporting, HIPAA compliance guidelines, federal escheat requirements, state unclaimed property reporting, IRS 1099 reporting, and any other new or updated regulatory mandates.
- Interprets government rules and regulations.
- Communicates with vendors and business associates on updated or new reporting requirements.
- Manages and coordinates work effort for updates to compliance guidelines, including HIPAA Core Rules, Washington Publishing Company Updates, and BCBS Association updates.
- Reviews and approves general ledger account reconciliations, claims system payment balancing worksheets, and other internal forms or balancing worksheets as needed.
- Assists management with review of payment transactions, general ledger reporting, and account reconciliation.
- Manages and coordinates work effort for disbursements functions such as recovery of provider negative balance, review and reconciliation of medical refund transactions, processing third party payee requests, monitoring customer inquiry requests, balancing, and review of payment‑related claim transactions.
- Assists with resolving issues related to payments, refunds, negative balance, deductions, etc.
- Actively participates in projects and provides system test support for corporate initiatives and system upgrades.
- Develops business processes, procedures, and workflows for new requirements or business needs for corporate priority initiatives or departmental goals and provides training to staff as needed.
- Leads the work effort with other department leads to develop, test, and implement solutions.
- Is directly responsible for and owns execution of large‑scale process improvement opportunities within new business launches and existing processes and controls, including defining scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Supports all aspects of testing, including requirements renewal, test case validation, and preparing documentation for test acceptance criteria.
- Troubleshoots system problems and collects relevant information to solve problems or determine the best solution with minimal risk and impact to customers.
- Communicates effectively with other departments regarding outstanding balances and associated claim or remittance information.
- Coordinates work efforts for audit review and trains staff on various business functions.
- Identifies, articulates, and communicates project and accounting operation risks to senior leadership, with clear recommendations for resolution or mitigation.
- Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
- Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, or another business‑related field and three years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience in accounting/finance functions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook/Email, and PowerPoint.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
