Position Summary: The Social Service Assistant IV provides comprehensive intake and ongoing support services to adult wards under guardianship. Responsibilities include conducting investigations of the ward’s residence, locating documents and assets, coordinating with family members, caregivers, and service providers, assisting with applications for public benefits and identification documents, performing extensive fieldwork (visiting clients, assessing living conditions and well‑being, ensuring safety and access to services), transporting and accompanying wards to medical appointments, court appearances and other essential activities, preparing required reports and documentation, purchasing necessary items, exploring community resources, and maintaining accurate client records using designated software.
Minimum Qualification Requirements: High school graduation or equivalent. Three years of progressively responsible experience in supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other related professionals (e.g., clerical tasks, transportation of clients, explaining services, assisting in group activities).
- Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
- Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college resulting in a Certificate of Achievement, Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Driver’s License: Current and valid driver’s license required.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: Applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, or inmates in prison or jail. Candidates must not have engaged in sexual abuse in any related setting, been convicted of sexual activity with minors, or been civilly adjudicated of such activity.
