This recruitment is to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill current permanent and temporary full‑time vacancies in the Department of Health and the Department of Human Services and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Employees appointed to temporary positions may gain civil‑service membership after a successful probationary period of at least six months, which provides eligibility for promotion and transfer to other positions.

Job OverviewSocial Workers and Human Services Professionals improve the overall quality of life for people in their communities by preventing problems, enhancing accessibility, accountability, and coordination of service delivery. They work in diverse settings such as hospitals, health agencies, social service agencies, schools, correctional facilities, and programs related to substance abuse, aging, and family violence.
Program Areas- Department of Human Services (DHS) – General Human Services (GHS):
- Employment‑related or first‑to‑work services, child‑care licensing services, and economic assistance to eligible families and individuals;
- Administrative planning, development, and implementation of comprehensive statewide social service programs;
- Medical assistance;
- Vocational rehabilitation services for individuals who are blind, deaf‑blind, or visually impaired.
- Department of Health (DOH) – Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD):
Provides comprehensive mental health treatment services to clients at high risk of hospitalization, excluding HSH positions. Positions in a clubhouse setting provide psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults with serious mental illness.
- Developmental Disabilities (DDD) – Provides case management, develops resources and services, and coordinates quality assurance activities for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities and their families.
- Family Health Services Branch (FHSB) – Serves families with infants and toddlers (0–3 years) by providing comprehensive care coordination, developmental evaluation, community resources, and transition assistance at age 3.
- Legal Authorization to Work: All applicants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or otherwise eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- BASIC EDUCATION
- Social Worker: Bachelor or master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree in social work from a college accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or a comparable regional accreditation body.
- Human Services Professional: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university that includes a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral sciences.
- For Human Services Professionals, extensive work experience may substitute for the required coursework on a year‑for‑year basis if the experience demonstrates comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Applicants must possess progressively responsible professional work experience that involves helping individuals and families identify problems, cope with conditions, and function effectively within their environments. The length of required experience varies by degree level:
- Social Worker – Bachelor of Social Work: 1 year;
Master or Ph.D. in Social Work: no experience required. - Human Services Professional – 1½ years.
- Social Worker – Bachelor of Social Work: 1 year;
- Driver’s License – Certain vacant positions require a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
