Overview
The Hawai‘i Pacific Health Research Institute (HPHRI) is dedicated to expanding knowledge and investigation of health prevention methods in Hawai‘i. HPHRI researchers conduct more than 200 clinical trials within the Hawai‘i Pacific Health network of hospitals — Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children, Pali Momi Medical Center, Straub Medical Center and Wilcox Medical Center. The Institute oversees a broad range of research projects in oncology, cardiology, emergency medicine and neonatology.
It manages a multi-million dollar budget and a dedicated staff that includes more than 25 clinical research coordinators and up to 75 physicians. Studies prioritize patient safety while advancing prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
The Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC) of the Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children is a statewide program established in 1976 to address the lack of medical, psychological and legal support services for victims and the absence of police reporting. It is recognized for its leadership in providing treatment for survivors of sexual assault, preventing sexual violence and driving change through public policy, awareness and education.
Our mission is to support emotional healing for those sexually assaulted in Hawai‘i, increase community awareness, reduce the incidence of sexual assault, and improve clinical practices through research and education. By promoting public policy we aim to change public perceptions, address barriers to treatment and prevention, and ensure effective criminal justice practices.
As a Crisis Worker Trainee, you will enter a comprehensive training program consisting of both didactic and on‑the‑job training to prepare you for the role of Crisis Worker for the Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC). Crisis Workers provide compassionate, front‑line intervention and support services to adults and youth who have been sexually assaulted, including crisis support to victims and their families in person and over the phone;
assisting individuals with reporting to the police when appropriate; and coordinating the acute forensic examination. Crisis Workers collaborate with SATC physicians to address medical concerns of survivors and to collect and preserve medical‑legal evidence. Upon successful completion of the training program, trainees transition into the Crisis Worker position and become part of a system of care for victims. If you have strong interpersonal skills, an empathic personality, and believe in the mission of SATC, we encourage you to apply.
