Job Overview

The P EX ENTERPRISE TECH SOFTWARE SVCS Department of the P SOFTWARE APPLICATION SVCS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has a Management vacancy available for a Development Specialist or Development Analyst, Enterprise SAP – whichever level best matches the applicant’s qualifications.

Development Specialist Responsibilities

• Program, test, troubleshoot, document, and implement SAP and SAP‑related information systems and/or applications to meet customer needs; provide second‑level technical support for the Help Desk as needed.
• Collaborate with Development, Infrastructure, Desktop Analysts, Database Administrators, Basis personnel, and IT Business Solutions Consultants to analyze system/customer requirements and design or identify commercially available small to medium‑sized SAP systems or parts of larger systems, including new developments or modifications and integration of existing systems.
• Work independently or under the direction of Development Analysts to evaluate business or technical software (Unix, client‑server, internet, cloud, desktop/laptop, tablet, and/or mobile) that meets customer needs, review alternatives, and support cost/benefit reviews.
• Assist/train customers and newer programmers/analysts in using SAP and related information systems.
• Create work plans, provide status/progress reports, and coordinate with customers.
• Author documentation to meet various company needs, including rate case filings, cost‑benefit analyses, and department strategies.
• Remain on‑call for scheduled and unscheduled work, including outside normal business hours and weekends.
• Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.

Development Analyst Responsibilities

• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and desktop staff, IT Business Solutions Consultants, vendors, and customer personnel to analyze work processes and design SAP and SAP‑related information systems.
• Program, test, troubleshoot, document, and implement SAP systems and applications to meet client/customer needs and assist in continuous improvement processes.
• Coordinate development specialist work on small/medium projects or segments of large projects; provide research, programming, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and training support.
• Serve as lead contact for system support, communicating project status and issues to stakeholders.
• Train/assist Development Specialists on tools and techniques.
• Provide feedback on team performance, recommend staffing, assist with budgets and forecasts.
• Author documentation for a range of company needs.
• Remain on‑call for scheduled and unscheduled work, including outside normal hours and weekends.
• Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications – Knowledge Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of information and office technology management principles.
• Working knowledge of utility business, business and/or engineering principles.
• Working knowledge of Unix, client‑server/multi‑tier, and workstation/PC/Internet/Mobile technologies and systems development.
• Good understanding of application interfacing concepts, basic reporting, and database development and support.
• Ability to document and execute an integrated test plan and a user acceptance test plan.
• Ability to maintain status of tasks, defects, issues, and support requests daily in an appropriate tool.

Basic Qualifications – Skills Requirements

• Design, code, test, troubleshoot, and implement programs, stored procedures, forms, reports, interfaces, workflows, batch jobs, etc. in ABAP, C#, HTML5, Java, JavaScript, .Net, Node.js, Perl, PHP, PL/SQL, Python, Shell scripting, SQL, XML (Windows and Unix platforms).
• Knowledge/familiarity with SAP and related products and other enterprise systems (CRM, IS‑U, Billing, Finance, Device Management, etc.).
• Perform SAP upgrades/rebuilds and system administration for supporting systems.
• Apply project/program life‑cycle techniques (e.g., SDLC) to programming and/or analysis projects for custom and vendor‑supplied software.
