Summary
- Public notice for DEA Criminal Investigator positions open to U.S. citizens.
- Positions GL-1811-7/9/11.
- Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug related activities.
- Prepare comprehensive, succinct criminal investigative reports and deliver briefings for senior personnel and other federal, state, and local agencies.
- Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities.
- Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants, and other means.
- Testify on behalf of the Federal government in court or before grand juries.
Applicants must complete a 16‑week residential training program. Former 1811 applicants with federal training may qualify for a 3‑week transition program.
Requirements- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance.
- Must sign a mobility agreement and accept relocation to any DEA facility.
- Completion of pre‑employment medical clearance and annual medical examination required.
- Full‑scope pre‑employment polygraph required; prior polygraph reciprocity possible.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/59.
- Must be at least 21 and not older than 36 at appointment, unless veteran or prior federal civilian law enforcement retirement.
- Successful E‑Verify employment verification check required.
- 1‑year or 2‑year trial period during which fitness and public interest advancement evaluated.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Incumbent subject to random drug testing.
- Individuals required to successfully complete 16‑ to 20‑week Basic Agent Training (BAT) course at Quantico, Virginia.
Eligibility for the General Level (GL) positions is outlined below.
- GL‑07 – One year of specialized experience at GL/GS‑05 equivalent required, including:
- Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law.
- Writing reports of findings, results, or accomplishments.
- Researching, collecting, and analyzing data from a variety of sources.
- GL‑09 – One year of specialized experience at GL/GS‑07 equivalent required, including:
- Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law.
- Collecting and analyzing data from a variety of sources.
- Writing reports and conducting briefings of findings, results, or accomplishments.
- Meeting or corresponding with court officials and law enforcement personnel.
- Assisting prosecuting attorneys in preparation of technical aspects of cases.
- GL‑11 – One year of specialized experience at GL/GS‑09 equivalent required, including:
- Conducting or supporting federal criminal investigations in collaboration with federal law enforcement agencies.
- Developing operational plans and determining investigative priorities of federal cases.
- Operating undercover, conducting surveillance operations, participating in raids, seizures and arrests.
- Developing and eliciting information from confidential sources.
- Interviewing, interrogating, and organizing evidence for prosecution and testifying in court.
- Education Substitution – Graduate level education may satisfy experience requirements for GL‑07 (full year), GL‑09 (master’s or two full years of graduate education), and GL‑11 (doctoral or equivalent).
- Combination of Education and Experience – A job‑specific calculation may combine education and experience to meet the required 100 % equivalency threshold.
