The Dean of the Shidler College of Business is the academic and administrative leader of the College and serves as its principal advocate. The Dean ensures that the College’s mission and goals are aligned with UH Manoa’s strategic vision and the broader University of Hawai‘i System. As a member of the Provost’s senior leadership team, the Dean promotes academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement, while fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
II.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and Management
- Oversees the College’s academic departments, centers, and programs, including faculty, staff, infrastructure, and budget.
- Leads strategic planning, financial management, human resources, and operational oversight.
- Cultivates a collaborative and inclusive environment that supports shared governance and professional development.
- Advocates for a safe, equitable workplace and supports leadership development among underrepresented groups in business.
- Serves as the College’s spokesperson within the University and to external stakeholders.
- Promotes academic rigor and research excellence in business disciplines.
- Supports faculty and student success through curriculum development, assessment, and innovation.
- Advances the College’s reputation through recruitment and retention of high-quality, diverse faculty and staff.
- Aligns programs with UH Manoa’s strategic plan and Native Hawaiian values.
- Builds strong relationships with alumni, donors, industry partners, and community organizations.
- Leads fundraising efforts in partnership with the UH Foundation.
- Enhances outreach and engagement programs that connect students with real-world business experiences.
- Represents the College to government, corporate, and international stakeholders.
Performs other duties as assigned.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- PhD or equivalent in Business Administration or a closely related field.
- Five (5) years or more of professional experience in academic leadership or comparable professional experience.
- Attained the rank of full professor or demonstrated equivalent professional achievement.
- Proven leadership and communication skills, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Experience in fundraising and external relations.
- Familiarity with legislative processes and public policy.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
- Demonstrated ability to engage successfully in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to consultative and collaborative processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical and academic standards.
- Experience developing innovative academic or industry programs.
- Engagement with Indigenous communities and diverse populations.
- National or international recognition in business education or research.
