Job SummaryThe SS Chaplain is a Salvation Army specific position. Under the supervision of the DSSD and in close collaboration with social service institutional program directors and clinical program staff, the SS Chaplain will provide and/or ensure the availability of a full range of spiritual care and services and resources to unit clients/families, staff, and volunteers which may include Bible studies, worship, prayer support, life skills classes, spiritual counseling, spiritual growth opportunities, logistical support for accessing and participation in spiritual growth opportunities, and participation in community faith-based collaborations/connections/networking.
The SS Chaplain will prioritize and work to ensure those encountered through the social service programs are introduced to and/or connected with a Salvation Army corps or their own place of worship. The SS Chaplain will work with program leadership to coordinate religious programming with clinical units, adhering to contractual/funding/licensing specifications and requirements and TSA child safety standards, with The Salvation Army’s mission.
Bachelor’s degree or certificate from an accredited Bible-based Christian higher education institution in theology, Bible, Christian studies, pastoral counseling, evangelism, Christian ministry, biblical or theological studies, religion, or social services/ministry; however, three years of experience serving and/or supervising in chaplaincy, pastoral care, Christian ministry, or social services from a Bible-based framework, with strong knowledge of local Christian faith-based Hawaii resources will qualify.
Training or service experience as a Salvation Army officer, soldier, employee, chaplain, or adherent is preferred. The candidate must have a clean driving record and must successfully complete a Driving Safety Test before driving for The Salvation Army and recertify as required. Ability to do fieldwork in various settings is required. Disaster recovery experience is preferred. Computer proficiency is required.

- Prioritize and connect clients/participants/families/staff/volunteers encountered through social service programs with a Salvation Army corps or their own place of worship.
- Complete Salvation Army onboarding and ongoing training to learn, implement, and administer Salvation Army programs and services in alignment with The Salvation Army mission.
- Maintain close communication with DSSD, Divisional Secretary for Program (DSP), Divisional Secretary for Business (DSB), and unit leadership regarding spiritual care services/activities and related community efforts.
- Coordinate all aspects of the program, including internal/external communication, budgeting, service reporting, site visits, and activities with DSSD, DSP, DSB, and unit directors.
- Encourage and nurture spiritual growth by ensuring worship services, holidays, Bible studies, fellowship meetings, and related religious education, materials, and pastoral counseling availability as appropriate.
- Ensure availability of Bibles and religious literature for client needs.
- Implement policies and procedures regarding religious services/spiritual growth experiences/pastoral counseling for all clients/families/staff/volunteers.
- Serve as liaison between program units and Salvation Army churches, Honolulu United efforts, and community religious leaders in collaboration with DSSD and clinical leadership.
- Support program participation in Salvation Army events and Honolulu United efforts as appropriate.
- Participate in agency clinical team meetings/trainings to support holistic treatment planning.
