Overview

Coordinates activities required to attain and maintain ANCC Magnet status for the Hawaii market. Initial work is focused on assessment and gap analysis. Facilitates and oversees the application submission, preparation of documentation, policies, research, and informational sessions relative to obtaining magnet status. Analyzes and presents key quality and patient satisfaction outcomes to nursing leaders, executive leadership, and frontline staff. Attends local and regional Magnet committees/councils, and facilitates the submission of nursing sensitive outcome indicators and quarterly/annual reports to the ANCC Magnet office and executive leadership.

Assimilates professional practice model into the Magnet portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinates activities required to attain and maintain ANCC Magnet status for the Hawaii region. Serves as the expert for the organization related to the five Magnet model components: transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, and empirical quality results. Provides education to nurses about Magnet Recognition. Conducts an assessment of Magnet readiness/gap analysis. Submits the application for Magnet Recognition, verifying that all requirements are met.

    Designs and implements a process to maintain Magnet performance requirements for future re-application. Coordinates activities with Nursing Leadership (CNE, Directors and Nurse Managers). Facilitates and supports the design and execution of nursing research projects and ensures IRB approval standards and guidelines are followed.
  • Is accountable for timely submission of required reports and/or information to the ANCC Magnet Program Office. Serves as a subject matter expert to ensure and support the professional practice standards and outcomes required for ANCC Magnet designation.
  • Establishes the systemic use of the ANCC Magnet standards and outcomes to support successful reapplication of Magnet designation. Supports nursing excellence, recognition, and empowerment through nursing professional governance and the development of nurses.
  • Improves nurse-sensitive and patient outcomes through interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration. Coordinates nursing and interprofessional research using evidence-based practice methodologies to improve patient care and nursing practice.
  • Performs duties of a highly confidential nature requiring comprehensive knowledge of organizational policies, practices, and procedures. Prepares complex correspondence and reports, gathers and interprets information to develop reports, maintains departmental files, and provides exemplary customer service.
  • Supports performance improvement with emphasis on process and systems issues. Identifies problem and opportunity areas internally and externally. Facilitates solution identification and development. Guides project planning and goal setting processes.
  • Promotes communication and knowledge transfer to ensure excellence: develops and maintains emphasis on evidence-based practice through modeling, mentoring, facilitating, and educating. Acts as liaison between relevant departments and nursing councils to identify needs and provide solutions that maintain or improve organizational standing (accreditations, licensing, strategic goals).
  • Participates in developing a culture of excellence, benchmarking best practices, and sharing tools and techniques. Encourages diversity of thinking, staff engagement, and learning from failures. Supports literature review and special events; integrates principles of excellence into all programs.
  • Collaborates with academic agencies to coordinate student learning and research objectives. Analyzes and communicates relevant data, evaluates complex problems, develops solutions, implements plans, and evaluates outcomes. Serves as content expert for the five Magnet domains.
  • Develops and maintains emphasis on evidence-based practice, promotes best practices, fosters shared governance councils, and seeks opportunities to mentor. Supports membership drives for local and regional councils.
  • Coordinates with KP Mentoring site and mentorship programs; educates frontline staff and nursing leaders on KP Nurse Scholars Academy programs; promotes professional and specialty certification; collaborates with academic agencies on student learning and research objectives.
  • Works with leadership to develop and implement a shared decision-making model around practice.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience as an RN.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Magnet experience.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii) required at hire.
Additional Requirements
