Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the project directors, data analyst and project coordinators, provide support for research project data management relating to improving the STEM outcomes for diverse students particularly in Hawaii and in the Pacific.
  • Assist with data collections, organizing data files, entering data, clean and merge datasets.
  • Analyze data applying multilevel, longitudinal, and categorical data analysis techniques.
  • Write technical reports for different audiences.
  • Assist with survey and other instruments development and review.
  • Conduct literature reviews pertaining to research instruments.
  • Assist with administering surveys and assessments to project participants.
  • Conduct focus groups and/or interviews with project participants.
  • Transcribe focus groups and interviews.
  • Create presentation materials for conference presentations, newsletters, and websites.
  • Attend regular team meetings and Center-wide meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a degree‑seeking graduate student admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa in Education, Psychology or related field in good academic standing (maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above) and maintain full‑time enrollment.
  • Completion of a course in research methods or program‑evaluation methods.
  • Basic proficiency with Excel and SPSS, e.g., pivot tables, import data into SPSS and generate descriptive statistics (e.g., bar charts, t‑test).
  • Ability to carry out data cleaning for large databases.
  • Ability to maintain detailed written documentation of data files.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Self‑motivated, dependable, organized, and able to meet established deadlines.
  • Skilled in using productivity software such as Word, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
  • Ability to work and participate in meetings between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm, virtually and/or in‑person.
  • Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai`i Driver's license (Class
    3), comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in statistics and educational assessment (e.g., regression analysis, ANOVA, and ANCOVA).
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting quantitative and qualitative data for evaluation and research reports.
  • Experience with qualitative analysis using software such as NVivo.
  • Completed a college‑level statistics or quantitative research methods course.
  • Experience with educational research or programs involving local populations such as members of Native Hawaiian communities and Pacific‑island communities.
  • Familiarity with STEM activities for K‑12 students.
