First Hawaiian Bank is currently seeking a Building Technician to join our First Hawaiian Center in Downtown Honolulu.
In this role, you will assist the Facilities Engineer in operating and maintaining all First Hawaiian Center major building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, lighting and life safety systems, as well as responding to tenant and employee facility maintenance requests, as directed by the Facilities Engineer.
Work ScheduleMonday - Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm (Hours may vary)
CompensationThe hourly pay range for this role is $22.50 - $30.00 per hour; commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities- Assist the Facilities Engineer in operating and maintaining all major building systems at First Hawaiian Center.
- Respond to tenant and employee facility maintenance requests as directed.
- Work independently and think analytically to identify and correct problems under high‑stress situations, following departmental procedures and Engineering direction.
- Handle confidential matters judiciously and maintain professional relationships with Executive and upper‑management personnel.
- Perform routine measurements, read construction drawings and blueprints, and use hand and power tools as required.
- Operate and maintain Class A building infrastructure systems, including chiller/condenser central plant, HVAC, domestic water distribution, life safety devices, and hydraulic/traction elevators.
- Ensure excellent follow‑through, time management, and ability to meet multiple deadlines under pressure.
- Graduate of an electrical, HVAC or plumbing trade/apprentice school or equivalent work experience in those fields, such as operations and maintenance experience in a large, commercial Class A building of similar size/type or equivalent facility required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience relating to the concepts, principles, and techniques involved in one or more of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing or mechanical (e.g. HVAC, refrigeration or plumbing) required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license required; clear driving abstract preferred.
- Past supervisory experience, including military command experience, is a plus.
- The following knowledge, skills, training, or experience are required:
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
- Must be able to perform routine measurements using a tape measure.
- Ability to read and understand standard construction drawings and blueprints.
- Skill with basic hand and power tools (e.g. drills/drivers, saws, drain augers, pipe wrenches, etc.).
- Must be able to use Microsoft Windows based PC, email, spreadsheets (MS Excel preferred), and word processors (MS Word preferred).
- The following are preferred:
- Experience with Trane centrifugal chillers.
- Experience with Trane Tracer Summit BAS or equivalent.
- Experience with Caterpillar diesel engine/generators.
- Experience with ASCO transfer switches and switch gear.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and think analytically to identify, and correct problems, under high stress situations, and taking proper action in accordance with departmental procedures and as directed by the Facilities Engineer.
- Must possess working knowledge and/or hands‑on experience in Class A building infrastructure systems including, but not limited to: chiller/condenser central plant air conditioning system and controls, HVAC, hot/cold domestic water distribution, life safety devices including fire alarm, fire sprinkler and pre‑action systems, and hydraulic and traction elevators.
- Able to handle confidential matters judiciously.
- Able to associate and work with/around Executive and upper management personnel with tact and composure.
- Possesses attention to detail with excellent follow‑through.
- Able to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
- Good time management skills.
