The Heavy Duty Mechanic performs preventive maintenance on engines and hydraulic systems for on and off‑road mobile equipment (including vehicles such as trucks and trailers) and maintains stationary equipment. Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on construction projects.
Duties and Responsibilities- Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair, and replace parts and components.
- Service machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulic systems, mobile and stationary equipment.
- Use computers to issue parts and update comments on work orders and task lists, including diagnostic programs for engines and hydraulic systems, OEM, and brake systems.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of services and repairs.
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; perform preventive maintenance; call for repairs when needed.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow safety regulations.
- Demonstrate dependability in attendance, work completions, and flexibility to meet business needs.
- Effectively communicate with co‑workers and customers in a positive manner.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical and electronic engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for significant lengths of time in an industrial environment with exposure to all elements of weather.
- Ability to work as a team player in a fast‑paced environment, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail to find the root cause for equipment failures.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary outside of normally scheduled shifts with little or no advance notification.
- Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling.
- Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, wiring, and working on heavy equipment; proficient in reading and understanding technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid Commercial Driver License is a plus.
- Welding, cutting, and fabrication skills.
- Full‑time;
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; minimum 40 hours per week. Overtime and occasional evening or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
